Getting started

What does Sifted actually do?

Sifted monitors your Photos library for new screenshots. When it finds one, it reads the content and figures out what it is — an event, a deadline, a product, a recipe, a piece of information — and turns it into a clear suggested action. Once a day, you get a digest of everything worth acting on.

Why does Sifted need access to my Photos?

iOS doesn't offer a screenshots-only permission, so Sifted requests full Photos access in order to detect when new screenshots appear. We only process images that look like screenshots — we don't read, store, or transmit any other photos in your library.

How do I trigger a scan?

Tap the scan button in the app to process any new screenshots right away. You can also let Sifted work automatically in the background — new screenshots are picked up when you open the app or when your daily digest runs.

What is the daily digest?

The daily digest is a notification that arrives at a time you choose. It summarises the screenshots Sifted has processed since your last check-in, highlighting anything that's time-sensitive or worth acting on. Tap the notification to open the app and review everything in one place.

Privacy & data

Are my screenshots stored anywhere?

No. Screenshots are sent to an AI service for classification and are not stored by Sifted on any server. The original images stay on your device in your Photos library at all times.

The only things stored locally are classification results (the label, suggested action, and any detected entities), small thumbnail images for display in the app, and your preferences. None of this leaves your device.

Which AI services does Sifted use?

Sifted uses Google Gemini as its primary AI model, with OpenAI as a backup. Both providers process data under API terms that prohibit using your data to train their models. See our Privacy Policy for full details and links to their policies.

Can I opt out of analytics?

Yes. Sifted collects anonymous usage analytics via TelemetryDeck — things like how often scans run and which features are used. No screenshot content is ever included. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy.

Reminders & Calendar

How do I add something to my reminders or calendar?

Open any item in your inbox and tap the suggested action — Sifted will pre-fill a reminder or calendar event with the details it found. You can edit anything before saving.

Sifted is asking for Reminders or Calendar permission. Is this required?

No. These permissions are optional. If you decline, Sifted will still classify and summarise your screenshots — you just won't be able to add items directly to Reminders or Calendar from within the app.

Troubleshooting

Sifted isn't picking up my screenshots automatically.

Make sure Sifted has Full Photos access (not "Selected Photos") in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos. Background processing also requires Background App Refresh to be enabled for Sifted in Settings → General → Background App Refresh.

I'm not receiving my daily digest notification.

Check that notifications are enabled for Sifted in Settings → Notifications → Sifted. Also confirm your digest time is set in the app under Settings → Daily Digest. If it's set correctly and notifications are on, try toggling the digest off and back on inside the app.

A screenshot was classified incorrectly.

You can correct the label directly in the item detail view. We're continually improving classification accuracy — if you see a pattern of misclassifications, please let us know via email so we can investigate.
